19th Annual Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate -2021
Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional Branch and J&K Police in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized the 19th Annual Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate Competition on the topic “In the opinion of the house, Virtual Model is a poor substitute for classroom learning”. A total of 27 teams from various affiliated colleges and University teaching departments and other Universities and Institutions of the region participated in the competition. The team from Cluster University (Departments) comprising of Aryan Sen and Shrenya lifted the Veeranna Aivalli Running team trophy. The first prize was won by Anmol Sharma from GDC Bishnah; Saskshi Bhat, GCET Jammu bagged the second prize followed by Sarthika from Cluster University as the winner of third prize. The consolation prizes were won by Shrenya, Cluster University; Monika Parihar, GDC Kunjwani, Mayuri Choudhary, GDC Kunjwani and Sugandhi, Bharti College of Education. Sh. Dilbag Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, JK Police was the Chief Guest of the occasion while Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Guest of Honor. Sh B R Sharma, IAS (Retd), Chairman Public Service Commission and Chairman of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch and Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS (Retd), Patron of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch also attended the prize distribution function. Mrs. Swarna Aivalli along with her family joined the event from Delhi and conveyed their wishes. Sh. Dilbag Singh while remembering the services of Sh Aivalli to the police services congratulated IIPA for consistently organizing the debate competition in his memory. While speaking on the topic of the debate, he was of the view that a hybrid model of learning can enhance the teaching –learning process in the long run. According to him the human relations aspect in the learning process is of utmost importance and the relationship between teacher and a student can only be developed in a classroom learning mode. Prof Manoj Dhar in his address while the pandemic has forced the educational institutions to move to online mode, the joy of learning in the physical mode cannot be replaced. Looking at the brighter aspects of online learning, he said that in last few months, both the teachers and students have developed immense capacities to explore the global opportunities of knowledge exchange. Sh B R Sharma in his address said that the pandemic has provided an opportunity for all the institutions to leverage technologies to their advantage. Educational institutions ensured that the students should not be at a disadvantage and therefore the online mode came as a boon for all the students. However, he was also of the view that hybrid model of learning is the way forward in the long run. Dr. Ashok Bhan said that the symbiotic relationship between IIPA, University of Jammu and J&K Police is in line with the vision of Sh. Aivalli. He appreciated the organizers for organizing this debate in the hybrid mode. He was of the view that the effectiveness of learning is possible only in classroom mode, especially for technical courses. Prof Alka Sharma, Hony Secretary, IIPA JKRB presented the formal welcome address and thanked the University and J&K Police for their collaboration and ensuring effective execution of the competition. Sh K B Jandial, IAS (Retd), Director (Seminars) presented the formal vote of thanks. Earlier during the day Prof Prakash Chand , Dean Students’ Welfare, University of Jammu appreciated all the students for participation in the debate competition. This was the first student driven live event in the University since the pandemic. Dr. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary, IIPA J&K Regional Branch paid rich tributes to Sh. Veeranna Aivalli and threw light on the life and contributions of the stalwart. Other present included Sh Kuldeep Khoda, IPS (Retd), former DGP, J&K Police, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu and Sh. Vikrant Kuthiala. The adjudicators for the debate competition were, Sh. Vinod Malhotra, Prof Ashok Gupta and Geetika Kohli Amla. The rapporteur of the event was Heena Sadiq. The debate was anchored by Puneet Kaur. Dr Sapna Sangra, Teacher In Charge (Debate), Ms. Ifra Kak and Sumit Sharma from University coordinated the event.
