15th Annual Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate Competition Trophy
Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional Branch in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized the 15th Annual Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate Competition on the topic “In the opinion of the house, Entrepreneurship is the only option for gainful employment”. A total of 20 teams from various affiliated colleges and University teaching departments participated in the competition. The team from Government College for Women, Parade represented by Sangapriya and Rishika lifted the Veeranna Aivalli Running team trophy. The first prize was won by Swikiriti Mahajan from The Law School, University of Jammu; Sangapriya from Government College for Women, Parade bagged the second prize followed by Nazish Wani from Government Degree College, Doda. The consolation prizes were won by Kunal Saini, GGM Science College, and Binesh Khan, from Jammu College of Physiotherapy. The prorgramme was attended by members of J&K Police, University and College teachers, members of IIPA and civil society. Mrs. Swarna Aivalli, Sh. Nitish Aivalli and Sh. Girish Aivalli with his family were the special guests on the occasion.
Sh K. Rajendra Kumar, IPS, Director General of Police, J&K was the chief guest at the prize distribution function. Speaking on the occasion, he said that imparting of training is very important for skill development and that it will go a long way in cementing the socio-economic empowerment of the state. He further talked about the success of Udaan and Umeed schemes that have resulted in several success stories of entrepreneurs. However, he added that developmental strategies and entrepreneurial education is required for eradicating financial insecurities.
In his presidential remarks, Sh. BR Sharma, Chief Secretary, J&K government and Chairman, IIPA, JK Regional branch pointed out that India has a large youth force wanting to be employed and entrepreneurship can solve this problem. He also asserted that in order to become an entrepreneur one needs to have a supportive framework and urged the youngsters to become passionate about their dreams.
Prof. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu and the Guest of Honor at the function, in his address said that successful entrepreneurs need to have passion; networking and keen observation to identify needs of the public.
Earlier during the day Prof. Satnam Kaur, Dean Students’ Welfare, University of Jammu emphasized on the need for the youth to participate in productive engagement of students in such activities to channelize their energies in the right direction. Prof Alka Sharma, Director, Seminars, IIPA J&K Regional Branch paid rich tributes to Sh. Veerana Aivalli and threw light on the life and contributions of the stalwart. The dignitaries released the biannual IIPA newsletter on the occasion.
The adjudicators for the debate competition were Prof. Monica Sethi, Prof. Indu Kilam and Er. P K. Nanda while Dr. Komal Nagar, Joint Director, Seminars, IIPA conducted the proceedings during the day. Er. J B S Johar Hony Secretary presented the formal vote of thanks. The rapporteurs of the event were Puneet Kaur and Vanshika Jamwal. The debate was anchored by Seharish Javed and Sameeta Rana and Time Keeping by Hemant Magotra.
