20thAnnual VeerannaAivalli Memorial Debate Competition Trophy 11th of March 2022
Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional Branch and J&K Police in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized the 20thAnnual VeerannaAivalli Memorial Debate Competition on the topic “In the opinion of the house,it is the culture of sports and not just Government Policy that can improve Indian medal tally at Olympics 2024”. A total of 29teams from various affiliated colleges and University teaching departments and other Universities and Institutions of the region participated in the competition. The team from Cluster University (PG) comprising of Alvin Singh and Prerna Sharma lifted the VeerannaAivalli Running team trophy. The individual first prize was won by Alvin Singh from Cluster University (PG); Prerna Sharma, Cluster University (PG) bagged the second prize followed by Ishika Sharma fromDepartment of Commerce, University of Jammu as the winner of third prize. The consolation prizes were won by Shivani Sharma, GCW Parade; PriyatoshDev, Department of English, University of Jammu and OjasviDubey, Cluster University (Colleges). Sh. Dilbag Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, JK Police was the Chief Guest of the occasion while Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Guest of Honor. Sh B R Sharma, IAS (Retd), Chairman Public Service Commission and Chairman of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch and Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS (Retd), Patron of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch also attended the prize distribution function.Mrs. SwarnaAivalli along with her family joined the event from Delhi and conveyed their wishes. Sh. Dilbag Singh while remembering the services of ShAivalli to the police services congratulated IIPA JK Regional Branch for consistently organizing the debate competition in his memory. He said that India can emerge as a sporting nation by building a strong sports culture in the educational institution. He was of the view that recent initiatives at government policy level will provide tremendous opportunities to the youth to make a mark at an international level. Prof Manoj Dharin his address said that through the effective implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in UT of Jammu & Kashmir, sports can be made an integral part of the curriculum which will help all the students in their overall personality development. Sh B R Sharma in his address said that the glorious tradition of culture of sports in India needs revival through effective policy and individual level interventions. He was of the view that sports help the youth to learn leadership, team skills and builds characters. He urged upon the participants to develop the thinking capability and participate in activities that help them in shaping their careers. Dr. Ashok Bhanwhile fondly remembering the personality of Sh. Aivallisaid that this debate competition is a reflection of his personality. He said that good sports person emerge as good and responsible citizens. He said that culture of sports should be made an integral part of the society Prof Alka Sharma, Hony Secretary, IIPA JKRB presented the formal welcome address. Sh K B Jandial, IAS (Retd), Director (Seminars) presented the formal vote of thanks. Earlier during the day Prof Prakash Chand Antahal, Dean Students’ Welfare, University of Jammu in presence of Er. J B S Johar, Vice-Chairman, IIPA J&K Regional Branch appreciated all the students fortheir active participation in the debate.Dr. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary, IIPA J&K Regional Branch conduced the proceedings of the function The adjudicators for the debate competition were, Prof InduKilam, Dr Komal Nagar and ShriShaminder Kumar. The rapporteur of the event was HarneetKaur and Manisha Mehta, Department of English Univerity of Jammu. The debate was anchored by Ms Shavi Sharma, Department of English and Dr VirenderKoundalTeacher In Charge (Debate),Mr Sumit Sharma from University coordinated the event.
