PAUL H. APPLEBY AWARD TO LATE SH. VEERANNA AIVALLI POSTHUMOUSLY 18th of October 2013
Shri Veeranna Aivalli, formerly Commissioner, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Ministry of Civil Aviation Govt. of India and founder Hony Secretary of the J&K Regional Branch of IIPA has been awarded prestigious Paul H Appleby Award by Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi for his distinguished services to IIPA and to Public Administration. The award will be handed over to Mrs. Swarna Aivalli by Shri H. Ansari, Hon’ble Vice President of India posthumously in the Annual General Meeting at New Delhi in IIPA Auditorium on 18th Oct, 2013. He is the first person from J&K to receive this award. Every year, Paul H Appleby Award is conferred by IIPA to honour its members who have rendered their distinguished services to IIPA and to Public Administration by way of their association with important committees of the institute or have made substantial contribution in the activities of institute. Born in 1943 Shri Veeranna Aivalli was 1966 batch IPS Officer of J&K Cadre. In his career as a Police Officer spread over 36 years, Shri Aivalli served the nation in various capacities. He was an icon, who represented a breed of professionals, upright, hard task masters for whom country came first always and every time. He headed the State Intelligence with distinction and served as IGP Kashmir and DIG South Kashmir Range during very difficult times when militancy was at its peak. He was a recipient of President’s police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He was given award for Meritorious Public Service posthumously by the Jammu and Kashmir Government in 2002. Shri Aivalli remains the architect of J&K Regional Branch of Indian Institute of Public Administration and is the brain behind establishing the Branch. His contribution to the upliftment of the IIPA Regional Branch is manifold. He was dedicated to ideals of ethics in administration and good governance and created the Branch to spread this message. It was by his almost single handed efforts that in the late eighties and early nineties, the J&K Regional Branch flowered into one of the most active Branches in the country. He was also member of the executive of IIPA, New Delhi It was due to recognition of his distinguished service and being a pioneer in spreading the message of IIPA in Jammu and Kashmir, Late Shri Veeranna Aivalli is considered for the award posthumously
