WORKSHOP ON URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND URBAN SERVICE DELIVERY

A one day workshop on “Urban Development and Urban Service Delivery’ was organised today by IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, Jammu. Shri Nawang Rigzin Jora, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development, J&K was the Chief Guest and Shri Suresh Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Home Deptt. was Guest of Honour. Hon’ble Minister in his address indicated that this is his first official address as Minister for Urban Development and the deliberations of the Workshop as reported are quite important to the Urbanisations process in the State of J&K. He said that workshop deliberations will provide useful feedback for the future. Shri Suresh Kumar, Guest of Honour presented a brief background of urban sector reforms in the state with particular reference to E-Governance initiatives. These reforms have promoted a sense of transparency and accountability in the Urban Governance in the State.

Prof K.K. Pandey IIPA, New Delhi presented Theme paper and elaborated the global and national focus on urban development. He said that urbanisations is inevitable and has a positive link with economics development. Shri Y. Sachdeva from RITES made a presentation on Traffic and Transportation in Jammu and Srinagar. Shri Vinod Malhotra Former Development Commissioner, T.P.O presented a case study of Haryana and Gujarat to Show their Experience of Urban land Management. Smt. Sarita Chauhan, IAS, VC JDA gave a presentation on planning and development control of Jammu city. Shri Sourav Bhagat, IAS, CEO ERA shared valuable experience on development of water supply, solid waste management, roads and transport etc  in Jammu, Srinagar and few other towns. Earlier Er. V.N.Sharma welcomed more than 75 participants of different departments e.g. Municipal Corporation Srinagar and Jammu, JDA Housing Board, Urban Local Bodies and TPO. Dr Ashok Bhan, Chairman IIPA, J&K Regional Branch indicated the importance of subject and expressed hope that a wide range of stake holders who participated in the workshop will continue to cooperate for the further development of urban sector in J&K. Dr C.M.Seth, Vice Chairman extended vote of thanks to Hon’ble Minister, Dignitaries and participants for valuable contributions in the workshop. Dr S.K. Kaul conducted the proceedings.
