14th Sat Paul Sahni Memorial Lecture (September 6, 2024)

The Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch organized the 14th Sat Paul Sahni Memorial Lecture on September 6, 2024, on the theme "Embedded & Exposed: A Journalist's Immersive Experience and Vulnerability." Senior Editor at Times Now Jammu, Mr. Pradeep Dutta, delivered the lecture, urging journalists to challenge fake narratives and present robust counter-narratives, particularly those targeting India. Drawing from his experiences in conflict zones like Ukraine and Israel, Dutta highlighted the immense dangers faced by war journalists, including risking their lives to report amidst violence and chaos. He emphasized the need for journalists to maintain objectivity, uphold ethics, and develop storytelling skills while reporting from the frontlines. In his address, Sh. B.R. Sharma, Chairman of IIPA J&K RB, paid tribute to Late Sh. Sat Paul Sahni and stressed the responsibility of journalists to craft narratives in the national interest. Dr. Ashok Bhan, Patron of IIPA J&K RB, shared his concerns about the exploitation of media power in building fake narratives, especially in Jammu & Kashmir, and urged both vernacular and national media to remain objective and truthful. The event, attended by IIPA members, media professionals, and students, was covered extensively by local and national media. Prof. Alka Sharma, Hon. Secretary of IIPA J&K RB, presented the vote of thanks, and the event was conducted by Prof. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary.
